CBS Members Trying to write a short precise description of Chris Cain and his music that does justice to his mastery (and magesty) is a difficult task. There is just so much to say about this sublime Blues musician. Suffice to say, with the inevitable passing of the legends (all the King men et al), Cain remains the obvious candidate to continue the legacy. Both vocally and instrumentally he growls, he roars, he rocks and he swings. He rings salty tears out of his trusty Gibsons. In short, a not to miss Blues experience from a top notch modern Bluesman backed by a band equal to the challenge. Count us in. When: Friday 4th November. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. Chasin' the Train is the biggest deal you possibly never heard of. The group comprising of Keven Bennett, Kirk Lorange, Mark Meyer and Ian Lees played regularly and almost exclusively at the Bridge Hotel in Sydney, creating quite a storm amongst the musically literate. The train's claim to fame is the languid chemistry of Bennett's magic voice, the tight groove of the Meyer/Lees rhythm machine and the extraordinary guitar of Lorange. Lorange is rated as one of the best slide guitarists in the world today by people such as Tommy Emmanuel, Dan Fedler (the Eagles) and Paul Barrere. Barrere should know as he was a member, along with Lowell George of the legendary slidetastic group Little Feat. Welcome to Lone Star Retreat and Event Center, a multi-purpose facility located in historic Georgetown, Texas just 20 minutes north of Austin. Come Visit the town with the most beautiful town square in Texas and has been. The Train keep a low profile with the members scattered to the four winds. They only reform when the stars align, and this Friday is such a syzygy (google it). Nineties MOTR heartthrob, Rick Price, has matured into artist that people serious about their music appreciate, if not immerse themselves in. The illegal immigrant protest of a nation overwhelmed with social programs that cannot sustain non tax paying workers. If you know of the band, we know you will be there. If you don't, take the punt, the gig will live in your memory. When: Friday 2. 8th October at 8. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. How much: $2. 2/$1. CBS members. Spawned from a one off gig at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart shone with such intensity that it was a given that the eponymous trio would forge a more permanent position on the national (and international) Roots scene. And why would that have been a surprise considering the combined vocal talents of Kevin Bennett, Lyn Bowtell and Felicity Urquhart, striking original tunes and lesser known gems by other artists, and their relaxed and assured instrumental style. Combine tight three piece vocal harmonies, effortlessly played acoustic instruments and a passionate and as authentic a rendition of real Roots music you're likely to encounter this side of Nashville and it comes as no surprise that Blues and Roots Central will be the place to be this Saturday night. When: Saturday 2. October at 8. 0. 0pm. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. How much: $2. 2/$1. CMAC members. Don't panic! There's no gig this Friday night due to the German Club Ball. Ball Aitken returns to Blues and Roots Central this Friday for a night of Swamp Rock, Americana and Blues. If 8 Ball's heady mix of steam train rhythms, catchy tunes and sleazy slide guitar doesn't get you out of your seat then brother (and sister) , you've flat lined. Grab some friends and your dancin' shoes for a night of hillbilly heaven. When: Friday 1. 4th at 8. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. How much: Free. Ever since Genevieve Chadwick first appeared on the Blues and Roots Central stage, we've been a fan and always looking forward to her return. You see, Genevieve's appeal is so obvious, with her stunning voice and assured guitar style, that you would have to be Blind Freddy (or his deaf cousin) not to know that this girl is destined for greater things. And just when you think it could not be much better, just add a band that could beat the jocks off most outfits around and you've attained enlightenment and landed in Blues and Roots nirvana. Regardless of what you had planned, make your apologies and make your way down to The Germo for a night of magic with Genevieve Chadwick, Jeremy Edwards, Mick Malouf and Dave Fester (AKA the Stones Throw). SEPTEMBER 2. 01. 6Cameron James Henderson represents a sterling example of the new vanguard's approach to the custodianship of the venerable art of the Blues. Cameron blends a number of guitar and folk influences into a coherent whole. Add his top notch band and the result is a warm confection of folk, Blues and and infectious rhythms. The music starts off laid back and reflective and builds to sauna like heat where Cameron's cutting guitar style mounts the assured groove of the band and lifts the excitement to another level. Come check out the Cameron James Henderson Band this Friday at Blues and Roots Central. It may just expand your Blues universe. When: Friday 3. 0th at 8. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah, ACT, Australia. How much: Free. It features a special talent that could have quite easily warranted a ticketed gig. But Bucky has made it extra special by insisting that it be free entry. Geoff Achison raised the Blues and Roots Central roof last time he was in town, and his return visits promises more of the same (and then some!). In a month where it seems there is a top notch guitarist appearing every other week at Blues and Roots Central, Geoff Achison (with special guests) might just be the gig that lingers in the memory. When: Friday 2. 3rd September. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. How much: Free. And, if your are inspired, Geoff, in conjunction with the Canberra Blues Society, is holding a guitar workshop on Saturday 2. Secure your spot by contacting the Canberra Blues Society. They're always a lotta fun, so we're smiling at the thought of the return of the Daiquiris (formerly the Acca Daiquiris). If you're unfamiliar with the oeuvre, the Daiquiris take a classic Rock song, add a dash of lounge Jazz cool, a sprig of quirkiness and shake. If you don't feel that spring has quite arrived then the Daiquiris will more than confirm that it has. Grab some pals and your cool Jazz lounge clobber (failing that neat casual) and make a beeline for Blues and Roots Central. The most fun you can have standing up. When: Friday 1. 6th at 8. Where: Harmonie German Club, Narrabundah. How much: Free It could have ended very badly for Owen Campbell back in 2. Australia's Got Talent. Why he was on the show is a question that you will have to ask Owen.
